Innovative Condoms and Solar Powered Toilets--LA inventors respond to Gates Fnd. challenges

Thursday September 26, 2013 by Carolyn

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation issued a challenge earlier this year to invent the "Next Generation of Condoms"--condoms that will more effectively prevent the spread of HIV and other diseases. The winner will receive $100,000. LA's Danny Resnic, the inventor and founder of ORIGAMI Condoms™, is one of the top contenders. Resnic has served as the principal investigator of four NIH-funded clinical trials that have tested his three latex-free condoms that focus on safety, effectiveness and sensation. (By the way, Resnic attended Art Center School of Design, which is at the forefront ofinnovative design solutions that make the world a better place.)

We at Do Good LA are wishing Danny Resnic luck and hope that he follows the example of Cal Tech Professor Michael Hoffmann, who led the team that won the Gates Foundation's "Toilet of the Future" competition in 2012 with their solar powered invention. And they won the $100,000 as well!
