Focusing Philanthropy

About

Focusing Philanthropy identifies, evaluates and presents via its website nonprofit organizations as candidates for personal philanthropy...all from the perspective of active donors who wish to be confident that funds or time contributed are achieving the greatest possible impact in addressing identified problems.

Each of the organizations showcased on Focusing Philanthropy actively addresses causes that are within its focus areas. Taken together, these organizations are helping to achieve sustainable improvements in individual and/or community living conditions and prospects.

Focusing Philanthropy has developed extensive criteria by which to screen nonprofits. As part of its rigorous assessment methodology, Focusing Philanthropy evaluates data to determine the extent to which an organization increases income, builds community infrastructure, and achieves self-sufficiency. Only 10% of the organizations that Focusing Philanthropy screens meet its standards for showcasing on its website. Southern California organizations that are showcased on the Focusing Philanthropy website include the Scripps College Academy and Spark.

Philanthropists are encouraged to make fully tax deductible donations to the organizations profiled on Focusing Philanthropy through the website. One hundred percent of the operating costs of Focusing Philanthropy are covered by the founders. Every dollar donated by anyone else goes in its entirety to the organizations and the programs designated, without any deductions for Focusing Philanthropy's overhead, administrative costs or fees.

Focusing Philanthropy is unable to evaluate unsolicited requests for funding or for inclusion on its website.
