As Executive Director of the LA River Corp, Omar Brownson is inspired by the way the LA River brings the city together and allows us to create change at scale. It offers open space, recreation, and a continuous greenway for 51-miles across the heart of Los Angeles. Omar leads our strategic vision, champions the organization externally, and oversees our operations. This involves building a broad coalition of businesses, community leaders, and environmentalists to champion the LA River Greenway. He works to carry out responsible real estate projects and programs for community benefit.
Omar was hired in January 2011 with a background in real estate finance, project development and community investment. His track record is entrepreneurial, rooted in private enterprise. He completed a joint-Masters in Public Policy and Urban Planning from the Harvard Kennedy School and Graduate School of Design, and was an Americorps Public Ally and Coro Fellow following a degree from the University of California.
